Founded by Homeworld veterans Rob Cunningham and Aaron Kambeitz, Blackbird and Gearbox announced the PC title in late 2013 as a prequel to the first game. Gearbox also announced that development on Homeworld Shipbreakers is progressing with Blackbird Interactive. The high-definition remastering of the real-time strategy series will be released on PC on February 25.

This beta combines code from over 15 years ago with newly-written changes, and will be shaped by fan feedback as development progresses. Competitive multiplayer modes for both games have been joined and will offer access to races, maps and game modes from both games integrated into one multiplayer experience.

The Homeworld Remastered Collection introduces Relic's acclaimed space strategy games Homeworld and Homeworld 2 to modern players and operating systems using the newest sophisticated graphics rendering technology, plus a fully remastered score and new, high fidelity voice recordings by the original actors. The collection also includes the original versions of both games with compatibility updates. The score was fully remastered and new voice recordings from the original cast were added alongside the graphical upgrade. Homeworld Remastered Collection includes Homeworld and Homeworld 2, and was remastered by Gearbox in cooperation with key members of the original development team at Relic and "passionate" members of the fan community. Last year, Gearbox had said hoped to release the title by February 2015, and now we know that is indeed the case.
